The day when my flash tried to ruin it, but Photoshop saved me :)

January 9, 2011

I was looking for Black-headed Honeyeaters, a Tasmanian endemic, yesterday and was fortunate to find some. It came to the spot where I wanted it a few times. So far so good. While shooting the first burst, I suddenly noticed on camera’s screen that the annyoing flash had screwed up things again. To be right I have to say it was the flash cord… This happens quite often and is really annyoing, however, yesterday the only good pose was the image below. Instead of -2 the flash fired at full power, resulting in that terrible outcome. Since the species is quite hard to get and I realy liked the image I tried to have it in Photoshop.  It took me about and hour and I borrowed the blown out white parts from another image, but I think the result is definitely useable 🙂

Isn’t it amazing what we can do with the possibilities we have nowadays? Years ago I had been left with the terrible image and might have never gotten a chance to photograph the bird again…
