After coming home with almost nothing the last few times I went out, my luck finaly swung around yesterday and I was able to capture a new species. The tiny and beautiful Mistletoebird (Dicaeum hirundinaceum). With only 9cm one of Australia’s smallest birds.

Flame Robins

Flame Robins (Petroica phoenicea) are certainly among the most striking birds in the world. You can see their vibrant orange-red already from far away. Photographing them is not quite easy and I didn’t manage a great image until yesterday. I was walking along a snow covered summit near Melbourne, when I discovered a group of these birds. I was stoked to find out that they were quite willing to cooperate.
